Hands on magic (a hands-on workshop)
Time: 2:30 p.m.- 4:00 p.m.(ongoing during the afternoon)
Date: October 26, 2003
Place: Hunnewell Building, inside the tent
Conducted by: Norma Weinberg, author, workshop leader, Master Gardener and a member of the New England Unit of the Herb Society of America, will lead this popular program. Norma believes in fostering a child's creativity and imagination and stimulating 'good magic.'
Description: This workshop is for children of all ages. We will explore the origins of the special Celtic festival that celebrates the oncoming of winter and the enchanting, dark half of the year. We will learn about the properties of some magical herbs and prepare our own 'conjure' bags to bring us luck on Halloween night.
Additional notes: All Hallows Eve or Samhain (pronounced 'sow'en) has roots that take us back to around 27 BC. The Celtic peoples believed in magic, unseen spirits, and the benefits of protective rituals to ensure prosperity and health. The roots of herb magic are in the energies that each plant contains. As long as you have good intentions, you will find that you may benefit from these enchanting herbs. Come with an open and inquiring mind!
